Dress Up! Listen Up! Show Up!

Hello ladies!

A few things you should know about…

a) We shot a kick-ass promo video this past weekend.  Here’s a shot taken by our fabulous pal Anya Garrett: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sketchartists/2444579984/.  We’re in the process of editing the video together.  Can’t wait to show you all!

b) We’re implementing a new dress code for DDPP: Code Awesome!  Dance in your knee socks, your tutus, your silver hunting caps, your goggles (a la the photo above).  Anything you wish you could wear out of the house on a daily basis but don’t because, well, who do you think you are?  A 4 year old?  (You do!?  Us too!!)  We’ll have time before class to change and we’ll have a few fun things in our bag-o-fun for you guys to wear as well!

…which brings me to…

c) The 15-minute pre-class warm up!  We’ll still arrive at 2 on Sundays and 8 on Thursdays but there will be 15 minutes of stretching because, who are we kidding - we’re not 19 anymore!  (and if you are… you rock!) You can use that time to change into your hot outfits and we’ll start DDPP promptly
at a quarter after.  I’ll email the DJs we have on our schedule to make sure
you know what’s up with this change.

d) Mothers Day DDPP!  On May 11th we’re inviting you to bring your mom along to dance with us!  We’ll have a mix full of hits from the 50s, 60s & 70s.  Any requests?  Send them our way!

e) The NY Dance Parade is on May 17th and we’re going to be there - won’t you join us?  Info from the website: After gathering between 27th and 28th between Broadway and Sixth Avenue, The Parade will kick off at 1pm.  Then we will boogie our way down Broadway, hula, swing and irish step our way past Union Square and into University Place. At Eighth Street we will Salsa, Tango and Waltz East into Saint Marks Street. Our House, Techno and Disco floats will have afternoon shoppers wigglin as they watch us get down
in the heart of the East Village. A straight shot from there brings us to DanceFest in Tompkins Square Park.  We’d like to get a count as to how many dancers we can expect so please email us if you’d like to join!
And don’t forget to come dance with us tonight at 8pm in your funkiest clothes (or your normal workout clothes with a few snazzy additions - fingerless lace Madonna gloves anyone?) at 440 Studios in room 4C to a mix by DJ dunkadoodooroo-q (Ailene Quan)!  ROCK!!!

Love,

Marcy & Glennis

Got To Give It Up!

Last week I, DJ Sassy Mollassy, quit my day job!  In honor of this long-coming and momentous occasion I put together a kick-ass mix that had our ladies busting MAD moves on a late Thursday night!  I knew “Rattled” by The Traveling Wilburrys would make the ladies boogie but, wow, that hard?!  I had no idea!  What a way to end a playlist if I do say so myself!

And here she be:

DJ Sparkle Planet Saves The Day!

You know you have an amazing DJ on your hands when she shows up and casually says, “I have a playlist ready to go if you need it” and by golly we do!  Because of last-minute travel plans (and the fact that I schedule my life within an inch of itself), I was unable to attend DDPP on Thursday, April 3rd, therefore Marcy was going to be called upon to recycle one of our old playlists.  Not such a bad thing since we two are pretty sweet DJs ourselves, but hey, maybe we want to mix it up instead of recycling!  Enter Robyn (DJ Sparkle Planet) who saves the day with her FABULOUS “On-The-Go” mix.

Here she be!

Take Me Home Tonight - Eddie Money
Umbrella - Rihanna (Featuring Jay Z)
When You Were Young - The Killers
U + UR Hand - Pink
Hold Tight - The Coasters
Ever Ever After - Carrie Underwood
Authority Song - John Mellencamp
When Did Your Heart Go Missing - Rooney
The Jeffersons - Theme Song
Beat It - Michael Jackson
Call on Me - Eric Prydz
Out of Touch - Hall and Oates
Guajira (I Love U 2 Much - Yerba Buena
Everybody Got Their Something - Nikka Costa
Just Like Heaven - The Cure
4 Minutes - Madonna (Featuring Justing Timberlake and Timbaland)
I Should Be So Lucky - Kylie Minogue
Uptown Girl - Billy Joel
Chains of Love - Erasure
Poision - Alice Cooper
Fast Love - George Michael
Amanda - Boston
See you Thursday!

Alooooha!

Sweet Marcy is back from Hawaii!  Welcome her back by showing up and shaking your groove thing tonight at DDPP!  Bask in the glow of her sun-baked skin, draw from the strength she brought back, revel in the smell of her ocean-soaked hair!   Or wait… that all might be really kind of too much to do while dancing.

So just come on and dance!

Sunday’s Playlist - Another Newbie Scores!

It seems simple; throw a bunch of songs together that will get our ladies moving, but it’s harder than you think!  That’s why whenever a lady shows up to break out her virgin DDPP mix and it’s a complete and total success I’m thrilled to no end.  Our newest DJ, DJ Guicy (Giulia Rozzi) kick our butts into high gear on Sunday (the 30th) with her high-energy, and way-sexy playlist!

Milkshake - Kelis
Maneater - Nelly Furtado
Good Vibrations - Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch
Lapdance - N.E.R.D.
Downtown - Peaches

Delay delay delay!  Sorry about the wait girls.  This was a ROCKING playlist by one of our newest DJs, DJ You’re Awesome (Heather Brack).  I haven’t had time fly by in DDPP like that in ages, the true sign of a great mix!

No DDPP Sunday

Hey bunnies just a reminder that we’re not dancing on Sunday because of Easter.  Eat some ham and drink some wine and have a great Sunday!

See you on Thursday with a mix from DJ Sparkle Planet (Robyn Sklaren) of 80’s movie B-side Hits!

Calling in Sick

There aren’t many things that can keep me away from DDPP but this past week I missed both of them!  I was sick, sick, sick coughing up a lung at home and sleeping tens of hours at a time (which, if you know me, is a feat unto itself!).  The good news is I am feeling almost 100% better!  The bad news is I missed a mix by one hot mama, DJ Spry (Pamela Paul)!  I can sort of relive it here by singing the songs in my head while I bounce around alone but I know it’s just not the same.  And that, my friends, is why I hate missing DDPP.  Even for you, cold bug.

And now, the mix!

The Glamorous Life – Sheila E
We Need a War – Fischerspooner
If I Take You Home – Van Hunt
So Flute – St. Germain
When I Get You Alone – Robin Thicke
To Cut A Long Story Short – Spandau Ballet
Disco Infiltrator – LCD Soundsystem
Tu Veux, Tu Veux Pas – Brigitte Bardot
The Perfect Kiss – New Order
Toyz – Missy Elliot
Jump – Madonna
Burning Up – Madonna
Kalakuta Show – Fela Kuti
Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground) – Michael Jackson
In Between Days – The Cure
Get Up Offa That Thing – James Brown
Come Dancing – The Kinks
Dynamite – Jamiroquai
Eyes Without A Face – Billy Idol

I have a feeling DJ Spry will be back with another hot mix very soon so keep a look out!
