After these messages…

Hey guys,  I just wanted to update you on scheduling the next event.  As I mentioned to some of you at the last dance party, 440 Studios has very limited ability and no longer has a suitable space for us on any weeknight (at a decent time) except Friday, which isn’t really ideal.  Apparently I just got lucky getting it for a few Thursdays and a regular class is now resuming that has priority booking (grrrrr!).  Weeknights seems to work much better for everyone than Sundays (as we were previously scheduling), so I’m trying to find a new location for around the same price.    Being New York, there’s only so many affordable options.  However, I’m going to go check out a promising location today.  Long story short, I hope to have something figured out within the next few days and get a dance party scheduled next Thursday (1/19) or, at the very latest, the Thursday after that (1/26).  I apologize for the delay and will update the blog just as soon as I get something figured out.  Cheers!

2012 Dance Party playlist

It’s safe to say we got the new year started off right at last Thursday’s dance party.  There were new faces, familiar favorites, good tunes and fly moves.  Check out the playlist below – a micellaneous hodge podge of DJ Hilary’s favorite dance tracks.  (Sorry for the delay in posting, guys.)

2012 Dance Party!

Sadly, the holiday season is drawing to a close. Next week, after days of more unbridled gluttony than we’d care to admit, it will be back to the grind. So let’s soften the blow a bit and dance off some of the holiday cuisine on Thursday, January 5th at 7:00 p.m. Thanks to the shout-out in Time Out, we’ve already got a good group of RSVPs, so it promises to be a pretty good boogie-down. DJ Hilary will be killing you softly with her playlist (theme, if any, still TBD but she’s leaning towards 90′s hits). See you ladies in the new year!!

Late(?) Happy Holidays!

In a fit of wild abandon, I left my laptop behind when going out of town for the holidays, so I’m a bit behind in wishing you all Season’s Greetings.  I hope everyone has had a great holiday and been able to put off returning to work for a long as possible!

Xoxo

DDPP

Hellooooo, New York!

For those of you who have found your way to this page via our recent mention in Time Out New York – welcome!  The next dance party event will be taking place on Thursday, January 5th at 7:00 p.m.

You may have noticed that the pricing you see on the left side of the screen is different from that in Time Out.  It was only after we replied to the lovely magazine’s diligent fact-checking email that we decided to lower the price.  The cost is now $5.00 with RSVP and $7.00 without.

The best way to find out about upcoming events is to give us a shout at dancedancepartyparty@gmail.com and join our mailing list.

Dance Dance Party Party is a lot of fun and a great workout in a judgment-free environment.  It was even too awesome to be contained by the Big Apple and there are now chapters all over the world.  So explore the blog, check out our Facebook page and come shake it with us on January 5th!

Nobody puts DDPP in a corner.

It was a total blast from the past to be had at the I Will Always Love You, Jake Ryan Dance Party. Check out the totally rad playlist below!

Hello. My name is Hilary and I’m a D.A.P.

Designated Awkward Person.  I’m not quite sure who designated me, but I’d really like to have a word with them.  This acknowledgement of my D.A.P. status is an appeal to my fellow sisters in awkwardness possibly lurking in the shadows.  You may have checked out the DDPP blog and/or Facebook page with interest.  Perhaps you’ve even RSVP’d to an event.  But then the day rolls around and you think, “I don’t know.  It might be weird.”

And you know what?  I’m not going to lie to you – it IS weird.  That is precisely how I explain DDPP to my friends:  “It’s exactly like it sounds.  Really fun and a little weird.”  But not in the way that you’re thinking and it’s actually what makes DDPP so great.  What I mean by that is, no one’s going to try to catch your eye and try to get you to do the dougie.  No one’s going to engage you at all.  We are dancing alone together!!  That’s what’s so awesomely odd.  When we say freestyle and no judgment, we mean it.  I like to think of our dance parties as somewhere between dancing alone in your living room and clubbing.  They lack the isolation of the former and the intimidation (and sometimes irritation) of the second.

Just in case you’re worried you’re going to walk into a room filled with lithe, break-dancing supermodels, let me tell you a little bit about myself.  I lay in bed at night going over just about every word I’ve uttered that day with repeated mental face-palms.  I only post pictures of myself from the neck up on Facebook so the people I went to high school with won’t see how fat I’ve gotten.  When I see a thin and not-pale girl with smooth hair (especially on a humid or rainy day), I feel unforgivably stabby toward her even though I am old and wise enough to know she is just as insecure and filled with self-doubt as I am.  I still can’t play it cool with a guy I like to save my damn life.  I fall down at least three times a week.   And I’m a HOST, you guys.

In fact, I signed up to host DDPP thinking it would combat my awkwardness.  It turns out, the two can co-exist in perfect harmony.  So to my sisters, if you’re on the fence about coming to an event – please do.  I really feel in my fidgety and uncomfortable heart that you’ll be very glad you did.

Forever and bumblingly yours,

Hilary

“I can’t believe we just met yesterday.”

Oh, Ren. You’re so cute when you’re angsty.

More on 80′s movies moments and blog stuff

In making the playlist for this weekend Dance Dance Party Party (which is still in progress), I’ve come across so many classic 80′s movie music moments that are awesome times a thousand, but don’t really work for dance party songs.  I hate not being able to include them, so I thought I’d at least pay homage by giving a shout out on the blog.

And now I’m going to sneak in some less fun info.  First, Facebook no longer allows us to update those who “like” the page.  In the past, most of our RSVPs have come through Facebook after an event is created and an update sent out.  Now we have to hope that people see status updates in their newsfeed or happen to visit our page.  So pretty, pretty please take a gander at our Facebook page every once in a while or join our mailing list (dancedancepartyparty@gmail.com) so you can stay up to date on events.

Second.  Ugh, WordPress, you guys.  Not to talk smack about our faithful blog server, but the widget options leave something to be desired.  I have added our Google calendar to the  top right window.  I have yet to figure out how to hyperlink individual dates to events, but if you click on it, you’ll be redirected to our public Google calendar where upcoming dance parties are scheduled.  As of right now, there’s two scheduled.  (December 8th and January 5th).  I’m having trouble getting a studio for a weeknight after that, but I’ll try to get something worked out soon.

Finally, DDPP will be in Time Out New York again!  We are being included in a upcoming article on ways to de-stress during the holiday season.  We’ll post a link when the article comes out.  In the meantime, enjoy your time on the banana boat!  More to come!
